Hart residents saving over £70,000 a year thanks to Insulate Hampshire

19-06-2012

Insulate Hampshire, the council backed insulation scheme has accounted for a collective £70,580 of savings on fuel bills across the district.

478 households in Hart have benefited from the scheme launched last July which is estimated to be saving residents £70,580each year and over 288,860 kg’s of CO2.

293 houses have had cavity wall insulation, 176 have had full loft insulation and a further 9 have had their loft insulation ‘topped up’ to the recommended depth of 270mm.

Installing cavity wall and loft insulation where none currently exists is expected to save the average 3 bedroom semi-detached house around £300 a year on fuel bills; and with energy prices on the rise, the savings you will make on the insulation will also increase.

And there’s still plenty more to go. Insulate Hampshire offers free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation where less than 60mm (2 ½ inches) of loft insulation currently exists, to all homeowners and privately renting tenants across Hampshire, subject to a free, technical survey provided by the scheme.

To qualify, applications must be received by 30th September 2012, with installations taking place until 30th November 2012. Due to expected high demand, this is subject to availability.

Government obligations mean that insulation measures won’t be free or subsidised after September; instead it will be replaced by the Green Deal, where a loan is put on the property’s energy bill to help householders increase energy efficiency over time.  However, Green Deal will be well suited to higher cost insulation measures such as solid wall insulation.

Insulate Hampshire consists of a partnership between Hampshire County Council and the 11 districts across the region and with funding from ScottishPower.

Ken Crookes Leader of Hart District Council told us “This is an excellent scheme and I hope that residents in Hart whose homes are not fully insulated will take this opportunity to save energy and save on heating bills.”
